Thank you and Goodbye

Hi there,

Welcome to our final blog post as we dive into a bit about the team behind this blog. This is accompanied by a short interview video we put together to give some of our thoughts on the world of football.

When we first put this team together we knew immediately what the topic was going to be; Football. Every time we would see each other we would talk about what was happening in the world of football, marvelling at team's triumphs and laughing at others misfortune.

All team members contributed to this blog. We all posted 3-4 blog posts each, giving each other ideas and topics on what we could speak about. All team members shared the workload evenly which made the whole experience very enjoyable.

On behalf of the ISYS Football team we would like to thank you for reading our blog posts and we hope you enjoyed our opinions on the greatest game of all!

Manchester City know Liverpool are here to stay

Hello and Welcome to today's post. Today I will be talking about how Manchester City know Liverpool are here to stay.

Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson says Premier League champions Manchester City know Jurgen Klopp's side are "here to stay" after they pushed their title rivals to the final day of the season.
City successfully defended their league title on Sunday, defeating Brighton 4-1 to finish one point ahead of Liverpool. The 97 points won by the Reds is the third-highest top-flight total in English football history.

Liverpool ended the Premier League season on 97 points, the highest ever tally for any runner-up in any of Europe's top five leagues

Despite suffering just one defeat all season, Liverpool's 29-year wait for a league title goes on. The Reds' 97-point haul, bettering their fourth-placed finish in 2017-18 by 22 points, is the highest ever tally for any runner-up in any of Europe's top five leagues. But following their 2-0 final day victory against Wolves, manager Klopp said Liverpool's "special" season was "only the first step" as they look to overhaul City in the coming years.

On the evidence of the past few months, they can barely afford to draw a game next season if they are going to keep up with City - who have a total of 198 points from their past two campaigns. That is why the Reds cannot rest and be too satisfied with their achievements, because they will have to improve further if they are going to challenge again.

Thank you for reading today's post.

Eden Hazard and Chelsea

Hello and Welcome to today's post. Today I will be talking about Eden Hazard and Chelsea.

Eden Hazard signed for Chelsea in June 2012 from French club Lille. The Belgian is Equally adept with either foot, and his 13 goals and 25 assists in the 2012/13 campaign show how powerful he is. In His second season, he finished as the club's top scorer and won the club's Player of the Year award, as well as the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

In his third season, he won the Premier League title and the Capital One Cup for Chelsea. In 2016/17, he was again named Chelsea Player of the Year as he inspired to team to another league title. Unfortunately, many sporting media expect that Hazard will be transferred to Real Madrid after the Europa League final. Hazard stated that Real Madrid has been his dream club for many years, and tabloids are reporting that he has already signed with Real Madrid and Real Madrid is expected to announce his arrival after the Europa League final. As a Chelsea fan, it is very sad to see Hazard depart Chelsea and I hope him all the best for his future.

Is Manchester City ruining Football?

Hey there and welcome to today's post.

As a Manchester United fan it sucks to see how far United has regressed and how well our cross town rivals City are going. United is the biggest club in England but for the past 6 years since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson, the club has looked everything but that. Meanwhile Manchester City have won 3 titles and are not slowing down. Credit where credit is due; they play beautiful, precise and entertaining football but the way they have acquired players doesn't sit well with me. The general consensus is that you need to spend money to challenge for titles (tell Leicester City that), but Manchester City have spent a completely outrageous amount of money.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/football/premier-league/premier-league-final-day-live-scores-fixtures-blog-start-time-how-to-watch-team-news/news-story/7599ffad2389227dcf9197c49f0a0420

Since the arrival of Pep Guardiola as manager in 2016, City have spent AUD$1.3 billion on players. This is an unprecedented amount of money. This extreme spending has altered the value of all players in football with the world record transfer fee standing at AUD$360 million for Brazilian superstar Neymar. The owner of Manchester City is Emirati billionare, Sheikh Mansour. He invests his own money into the club, which he then recovers his money by raising the price of oil which he owns. The ability to do this so easily means that City can spend as much money as they want with no limitation of money. The desire to win has gone too far with City buying players like it is a video game. This creates a disadvantage for clubs who are unable to match City financially. City now operates by solving issues within the club by buying more and more players, usually the best that are available.

https://www.thenational.ae/opinion/comment/ten-years-on-what-the-acquisition-of-manchester-city-tells-us-about-abu-dhabi-arab-culture-and-the-beautiful-game-1.765155

Not just for the sake of Manchester United but rather the whole of football, I hope that another team wins the Premier League next year to show that money can be beaten. Until then I am expecting City to spend another $200 million on players this coming transfer window.

Thanks for reading today's post. Stay tuned for more posts, including tomorrow's.

Man City Premier League Winners!

Manchester City wins the league once more!

So coming back to the post about the Liverpool and man city title race, we talked about how this will go down the wire and the final week will determine the winner. Manchester city was facing Brighton away which for some might be a walk in the park but Brighton started off well. Glenn Murray scored the opener 27 minutes in, at this point in time Liverpool was already leading Wolves at anfield by sadio mane's opener. To be honest, I thought Brighton would show up this game and upset, preventing man city the league and giving liverpool a chance at winning both premier and champions league. A dream come true for all clubs.

Manchester City lifts the trophy again.

However... Man city responded immediately, with aguero to respond with an equalizer a minute after Brighton's opener. A draw could still see liverpool lift the trophy but 10 minutes later, Laporte's insane header boosted them from second place to first place. At this point it was all over for Brighton, I was watching the game live and noticed a shift in gameplay, Brighton started to play a lot more defensively with 5 at the back. Man city at this stage was just keeping possession and fully control the rythm of the game.

Sergio Aguero equalizes immediately after Brighton leads.

Second half continued and Man city had full control of the pace and rythm of the game. The end result was 4-1 which prompted city to lift the trophy. Liverpool kept a clean sheet with 2-0 against wolves at the end of the day but the crowd had no shame in being thankful for a wonderful season.

Liverpool fans happy with Jurgen Klopp's second place.

Overall, Manchester City fully deserved the title as they had yet another terrific run this season. Liverpool on the other hand ultimately deserved to be recognized as the most improved team in the premier league as they displayed a spectacular performance throughout the season with only one single loss which was against man city. The 2018/2019 season wraps up and we will now look forward for the champions league grand final. See you guys soon

Dark Days for Football Fans in 3, 2, 1....

Welcome to today's post.

Three leagues are coming to an end within the next two weeks bringing dark and sad times for football fans as they have nothing to look forward to, with two of them ending tomorrow.
Sydney FC have won by a landslide by netting 6 goals against Melbourne Victory with a final score of 6-1, securing their position in the finals. The finals are scheduled to be held exactly a week from today.

Bayern have continued their no loss streak by drawing against Hannover 96 nil - nil, still keeping them at the top of the table and confident to win the cup. That is ofcourse unless something unexpected happens tomorrow on the last day of the league. There is still a chance for Dortmund to win if they can win tomorrow's match and Bayern loses. But if Bayern do draw in that situation then there is a possibility that other factors may be brought into play such as foul count and number of cards received by each respective team.

On the other side of the table, Dortmund - Fortuna have ended with a 3 - 2 win but still Dortmund fall short of 2 points to tie at the top with Bayern. Fortuna have played exceptionally considering that Bodzek had been called off after recieving a red card. With a 11 vs 10 handicap they were still able to minimise the 3 - 1 gap, but luck was not in their favour last night.

There is only a single pixel line seperating Machester City and Liverpool now as they stand with 95 and 94 points. At 2AM Tuesday, the final blow of the whistle will unveil the champion as they clash against Brighton and Wolves.

Thank you for staying with us tonight.

The UK is watching the most exciting Premier League title race in years

 Welcome to today’s post.

Today I will be discussing the most exciting Premier League title race in years has attracted some record-breaking television audiences around the world

The Premier League claim tickets sold across the League is tracking at 95 per cent, while their anti-piracy efforts have also played a part in delivering the uplift in TV viewing. This season they have successfully blocked 175,000 illegal streams in the UK alone.

Viewers are not just attracted to big games like Manchester United versus Manchester City

International figures for the full season are not yet in with one final weekend of fixtures to go but they are tracking much higher and in several territories across the globe the Premier League has achieved its highest ever audience for an individual match.

With the title race going down to the wire for the first time in five years, this could be another bumper weekend. But Sky have already had 16 matches with a 2million+ audience this season, which is more than the past two seasons combined.

There was shock at Sky Sports as Barney Francis's 10-year tenure as managing director ended

A statement from Sky said that Francis, who had become one of the most influential figures in British sport and led the negotiations for Sky in the last £5billion Premier League rights deal, had been 'promoted to the new role of CEO Future Sport'.
But insiders regard Francis as a casualty of the recent Comcast takeover, claiming he was 'emotional' when he addressed staff on Friday. He is being replaced by Rob Webster, who has been at the broadcaster for more than 20 years.

Europa League Semi-final second leg

Hi and welcome to today's post.

This morning the two opponents for the Europa League final were decided.

Valencia took on Arsenal at home, looking to overcome a 3-1 deficit. The game started well for Valencia as they took control as Kevin Gameiro tapped in an early goal in the 11th minute giving the Valencia fans hope as the aggregate became 2-3. This was short lived as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang finished a beautiful half volley in the 17th minute. The game was in the balance as Alexandre Lacazette scored in the 50th minute followed by another Valencia goal by Kevin Gameiro. The longer the game went on the less likely it looked that Valencia would make a comeback. Aubameyang decided that he wanted a hatrick scoring two more beautiful goals including his signature front flip goal celebration. His hatrick put the match beyond doubt, booking Arsenal a spot in the Europa League Final.

Here is a link to the highlights from the match:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3cMSBkyV4Hg

                                                          https://footballace.org/2019/05/09/valencia-vs-arsenal-football-match-report-may-9-2019/

With the first match ending 1-1, Chelsea took on Eintracht Frankfurt, looking to come out strong at home and book a place in the final. Chelsea youth team product, Ruben Loftus Cheek scored the opening goal, slotting a sublime ball from Eden Hazard into the bottom right corner. Frankfurt fired back through Luka Jovic as he played a superb one-two pass followed by a beautiful right footed finish. The game was fairly even throughout with poor finishing causing the match to go to extra time. Multiple saves from Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp and a clearance off the line by Chelsea defender David Luiz saw the game go to penalties. The penalty shootout started very well for Frankfurt as they scored all 3 of the first 3 penalties while Chelsea missed their second penalty. An extremely poor penalty from Martin Hinteregger and a save from Kepa saw Eden Hazard step up to take the potentially winning penalty for Chelsea. Rumours say that Real Madrid are on the hunt for Hazard with a deal already in the works. This penalty kick had the possibility of being his last kick of the ball for Chelsea, however with the class of Hazard, he powered it down the middle, sending Chelsea through to face city rivals Arsenal in the final.

Here is a link to the highlights from the match, including the penalty shootout:

With Liverpool and Tottenham securing their place in the Champions League Final, and now Arsenal and Chelsea in the Europa League final it is an all English end to both competitions, reinforcing what a lot of people say, myself included, that the English Premier League is the best football league in the World.

In terms of predictions for the final, I believe that Chelsea will win as I think they play better in bigger games, whereas Arsenal often capitulate. However, it wouldn't surprise me if Arsenal won.

Champions League Semi finals leg 2

Hello and welcome to today's post.

I will be discussing the leg 2 of Champions League semi final.

First up, Liverpool vs Barcelona
What a game. Liverpool shocked the whole world when they crushed the Spanish giants by 4 goals. Divock Origi's scored two goals alongside Georginio Wijnaldum also with two goals. Barcelona created many chances however, their attackers couldn't execute inside the Liverpool's net. Liverpool's final goal was spectacular. Alexander-Arnold passes to Origi  unexpectedly while the Barcelona were preparing for defense.

                                       https://www.tsn.ca/liverpool-stuns-barcelona-4-0-to-reach-cl-final-1.1302175

Secondly, Ajax vs Tottenham Hotspurs
Another brilliant game from both teams. Ajax scored 2 goals in the first half of the game. Tottenham fans thought it was over for them however, Lucas Moura equalized the score with two goals in the second half and in the 96th minute, he scored a game-deciding goal. Although the aggregate was 3-3, Tottenham advanced to the finals as they win on away goals. This is a history for Spurs as it is their first time reaching to the finals stage of the Champions League. The final is now England vs England and it takes place 2nd of June.

Another season begins to close

Hi and welcome to today's post.

Beginning this week most of the leagues around the World are wrapping up.

In the A-League, the semi finals are this weekend, with Perth Glory facing Adelaide United and Sydney FC facing Melbourne Victory. Perth Glory will be looking to continue their regular season form which saw them finish on top, while Sydney FC will be looking to win back to back titles. Melbourne Victory will also be looking to add to their tally of titles with them holding the highest amount of championships.

                                                       https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports/2018/10/20/soccer/keisuke-honda-scores-league-debut/

La Liga wraps up at the end of next week although the champions have already been crowned with Barcelona winning back to back titles. Lionel Messi was on fire this year,  winning the golden boot scoring 34 goals and getting 13 assists and counting. The loss of Cristiano Ronaldo deemed to be to much with 2018 Champions League Champions Real Madrid, finishing in 3rd place, currently 15 points behind Barcelona. This only means one thing; Real Madrid are going to splash the cash in the transfer window.

                          https://www.goal.com/en/news/messi-will-have-10-statues-at-renovated-camp-nou-bartomeu/1n5f5cvsa8jzb1n6w83dyuyz9f

Ligue 1 has 3 matches left although Paris Saint Germain were crowned as champions on the 22nd of April. This was no surprise with the club winning 6 of the last 7 Ligue 1 seasons. Additionally the acquisition of French superstar Kylian Mbappe proved too much to handle with the teenager scoring 30 goals in 27 games. With Real Madrid on the prowl for new superstars to fill their team, I think that they will come with an offer for Mbappe that PSG can't refuse.

        http://www.espn.com/soccer/paris-saint-germain/story/3695075/kylian-mbappe-paris-saint-germain-need-to-grow-before-targeting-champions-league

The Bundesliga is going right down to the wire with Bayern Munich ahead of Borussia Dortmund by 4 points. With 2 games left, Dortmund must win both to have a chance, with a loss or a draw not being enough. It's not all roses for Bayern though as they face RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt who are 3rd and 4th respectively. Two draws or one win from those games will be enough, crowning Bayern Munich as the champions of Germany. I do think though in the end it is unlike Bayern will lose both games as they have been in great form as of late. It will definitely be interesting to see how it pans out.

https://www.bavarianfootballworks.com/2018/12/26/18156252/bayern-munich-robert-lewandowski-is-where-he-belongs-chelsea-real-madrid-juventus-psg-manchester

The Serie A also crowned an early winner with Juventus currently leading the league by 16 points with 3 games left. With the acquisition of Cristiano Ronaldo it was impossible to see the league go any other way. Juventus will be disappointed with their performance in the Champions League, getting knocked out in the quarter finals. It will be interesting to see how they bounce back in that competition next year.

                                  https://www.givemesport.com/1473570-cristiano-ronaldos-mother-posts-bizarre-tweet-about-her-sons-juventus-impact

As Guido spoke about yesterday, the Premier League is still very much alive and in the balance.

Can Liverpool win the Premier League title race?

The current state of Liverpool and Manchester City

Manchester City v Leicester City

Man City's 1-0 win over Leicester this morning sees them sitting back on top of the premier league table. Brendan Roger's men held a promising show of defence and attack but failed to capitalise in Etihad. Vincent Kompany, never had a shot on target outside the box this season rocketed the ball in the top right corner erupting Etihad stadium. Although it wasn't the prettiest performance from Guardiola, it was enough to seal the 3 points as they head to Brighton for the final game.

Kompany's screamer. source : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYC7D8MTOu4

So where does this put Liverpool?

There is still hope for Liverpool although it may be slim. Man city is currently leading by one point on the table with both teams having to play another game next week. These final games are crucial for both sides. Due to how close they are on points, neither team cannot afford to drop points. Liverpool will be hosting Wolves at Anfield, while Man City will play the almost relegated Brighton Hove & Albion. If Both teams win their games, Man City will retrieve the title. If ANY team loses, the other would take the trophy. This therefore puts Liverpool in a tough situation, keep in mind they will also be playing Barcelona at home tomorrow.
Liverpool yet another season trophy less is definitely inevitable at this point.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's post as we find out who will book a spot at the Champions League Grand Final.

10 things we learned from the penultimate weekend

Welcome to today’s post.

Today I will be discussing things we learned from the penultimate weekend of the top-flight season

1.     Huddersfield draw show how bad Manchester United are, in other words, it shows how bad they have become recently
2.     When Liverpool lost Mohamed Salah in last season's Champions League final they had to turn to Adam Lallana. Their bench was a weakness.

Manchester United's hopes of a top-four finish ended with Sunday's draw at Huddersfield

3.    A summation of Arsenal's first season under Unai Emery is simple. Their attack is good, their defence is bad.
4.    If Chelsea are to lose Eden Hazard this summer, then at least he has provided them with lasting memories this campaign and helped them back into the Champions League.
5.    Liverpool are now the first team in Premier League history to have two defenders provide 10 or more assists each in a single campaign – Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson both have 11.
Liverpool beat Newcastle to leapfrog Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table

6.     The case of Neil Warnock leads to a question about how teams should handle promotion to the Premier League. Warnock holds the promotion record in this country and it's fair to say no one expected him to take his Cardiff team up last season. He is as close as you can get to a Championship whisperer.
7.     Marko Arnautovic is back – and that will mean a lot to West Ham. After his failed transfer to China, he went completely off the boil and the fans responded in kind.
8.    Wolves are now 31 points ahead of Fulham after Saturday's win and on the cusp of Europe. Nuno Espirito Santo will get plenty of deserved praise, but it is also time to raise a glass to the team handling Wolves' transfer business.
9.    Everything seems to be coming together for Everton, not least in terms of their defence. The 2-0 win against Burnley was their fifth consecutive clean sheet in a row at Goodison Park.
10. A big way in which football has changed over the last decade is just how big of an attacking outlet all full backs have become. Jurgen Klopp has taken that to a new extreme.

Champions League Semi-Finals First Leg (Contd.)

Welcome to today's post.

Today I will be discussing the matches that have taken place on the 4th of May and will take place on the 5th.

The first match was between Crystal Palace and Cardiff City with a final score of 3-2. It is indeed a sad day for the Blue Birds and their fans as they have been relegated from the Premier League .

Cardiff players slump to the turf after relegation

Crystal Palace devastated after being relegated from the Premier League after the loss

The second match, between Liverpool and New Castle came up to a score of 3-2 as well during the final blow of the whistle while the table tops hold their position and add another 3 points. The game had started and Van Dijk nets the first ball in 13'. And then starts the back and forth of goals until it ties down to 2-2. With only 4' remaining of play, Origi seals the deal for the winner as he heads the ball, a wonderful connection from the freekick taken by Sha in at an angle slipping through the hands of the keepers.

Mohamed Salah is placed on a stretcher by paramedics.

Mo Salah being stretchered out of the field for the second time this season

The hype will be though tonight for the two teams of Chelsea and Manchester United as they will lock horns against Watford and Huddersfield respectively. With Chelsea in 4th position with 68 points and Manchester United in 6th position with 65 points, a long way from the top three. Although according to predictions from majority of fans, they are bound to lose the matches tonight.

UEFA Europa League Semi Finals Leg 1

Welcome to today's post.

I will be discussing yesterday's UEFA Europa League matches.

Firstly, Arsenal and Valencia played first leg of the semi final games. Valencia's Mouctar Diakhaby scored the opening goal in the 11th minute with a stunning header. Arsenal levels the score with Alexandre Lacazette scoring in the 18th minute from a through pass from Aubameyang. Lacazette scored another goal in the 25th to put Arsenal ahead to the game. He scored a stunner from Xhaka's brilliant cross. Aubameyang scored a last 90th minute volley goal as it sealed the 3-1 win.

https://paininthearsenal.com/2019/05/02/arsenal-vs-valencia-5-things-learned-alexandre-lacazette-player-season/

Secondly, Chelsea and Eintracht also played the first leg of the semi finals. Eintracht took the lead in the 23rd minute with a header from Luka Jovic. Chelsea equalised with a 45th minute goal from Pedro.

Champions League Semi-Finals First Leg

Welcome to today's post.

I will be discussing the Champions League matches which took place on the 1st and 2nd of May 2019.

First up, Spurs vs Ajax. Going in to this match I expected Ajax to win because of how consistent they have been in the competition knocking out heavy weights Real Madrid and Juventus. They delivered on my prediction winning 1-0 scoring a crucial away goal. The young core of their team continues to impress, making names for themselves. It truly is a story of the underdog. With the tie being 1-0 going into the second leg, the tie is far from over, and with Tottenham possessing such big names, it is entirely possible they will go through. Time will tell.

https://www.marca.com/en/football/international-football/cronica/2019/04/30/5cc8b7a0ca47419c5e8b4594.html

In the next match Barcelona played Liverpool. This was a tough match to predict due to the attacking prowess of both teams. I leaned towards Barcelona for one simple reason; Lionel Messi. The Argentinian magician continued to show why he is the best player in the world scoring 2 goals including a stupendous free kick from well outside the box, burying the ball into the top left hand corner. For me, Messi is the best player to have ever played football, although a lot of people disagree. I can't ignore how technically gifted he is, while also continuing to perform on the World's biggest stage.

Here is a link to his amazing free kick:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxuSp8TsJ2E

In most cases the tie would be over but Liverpool, with the likes of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane in their team, truly anything is possible. I do think however that it is too much of a Herculean task and Barcelona will prevail and book their place in the 2019 Champions League Final.
